ACL REHAB, DONE RIGHT.

Don’t be another victim of the dreaded ACL statistics! Trust MVMNT Physiotherapy to get you back to your best.

An ACL injury doesn't mean that your sporting days are over. Unfortunately in the UK, re-rupture rates in ACLs are between 25-30%. This is in large part due to the varying, and overall poor quality of rehab given to patients on their recovery journey. If you injure your ACL, we at MVMNT Physiotherapy aim to make it your only experience of such an injury. We use a robust approach to return to your sport, and performance, with the utmost confidence. In a recent, landmark study on over 7,500 patients with ACL tears (Ardern et al, LaTrobe University - Australia):

  • Only 81% of patients managed to return to their sport in any capacity.

  • Just 65% of all patients return to their pre-injury level of sport.

  • Around 55% of ACL patients return to competitive sports post-surgery and rehab.

The ‘standard’ ACL rehab care in the UK within the NHS or box-room private physio clinics, are failing patients. It generally comprises of short appointments, spread 4-6 weeks apart, given generic exercise sheets and discharged far too early, leading to increased re-injury risk. We strive to create a supportive environment that keeps you training, to ensure you are not spending 12 months sitting on a physio table getting massages and doing generic exercises. We at MVMNT Physiotherapy ensure that every box is checked and we leave no stone left unturned. Don’t let poor quality rehab or monthly NHS exercise sheets be the reason you don’t get back to your sport.

Signs that your physio is failing your ACL, increasing your risk of re-rupture:

  • You still haven’t gained full range of motion in your knee after several months of rehab.

  • Your knee swells up after you walk or exercise.

  • Your physio measures your strength using their hands and not modern equipment.

  • You’re doing the same, easy exercises every week.

  • You get given an exercise sheet to ‘do for a month’.

  • Your physio sessions are 20-25 minutes of rushed exercises, without breaking a sweat.

  • You don’t feel challenged by your rehab.

  • You haven’t been given a clear pathway to return to running and your sport.

  • Your physio clinic only has a few small dumbbells in a small clinic room.

  • Your 1:1 physio rehab doesn’t include jumping, running, sprinting, change of direction drills, weights, and sports-specific training in the same session.

‘‘At MVMNT Physiotherapy, we have the most suitable ACL rehab facility in Hitchin, with the sole aim of getting you prepared to get back to your sport and reduce the risk of a re-tear of your ACL in the future’’

HERE IS WHY OUR ACL REHABILITATION SETS YOU UP FOR SUCCESS, THE FIRST TIME AROUND.

1. We map out the journey so you know every step of the way.

Rehab can be overwhelming with tons of misinformation out there. On your discovery call and in your first assessment you will leave knowing that the important details are taken care of. Every question you have will be answered and your car will be packed to start the journey.

2. We nail the fundamentals first.

At MVMNT, we don’t believe in squeezing 20+ patients into our clinic in a day, with rushed 20/30 minute appointments. Due to our long-term approach, all of our physio appointments are 45 minutes in duration. Early wins in rehab are crucial. It’s imperative that we get our full range of motion and swelling taken care of as soon as possible. Landing these wins early set us up for success through the rehab. The sooner we get this, the quicker we can start to load the knee joint and begin running.

3. We manage your entire rehab and transition back to sport.

We at MVMNT Physiotherapy want you to enjoy your rehab progress. Things get really exciting. Throughout the process we will get you stronger, fitter, back running, and re-introducing sports-specific movements in our state of the art gym. Most physio clinics comprise of a small room with a handful of dumbbells and resistance bands. We believe that our patients deserve better.

4. We use state of the art testing equipment to guide every decision.

If you’re not measuring, you’re guessing. We have invested heavily into state of the art equipment digital dynamometers and digital bloodflow restriction cuffs to measure, monitor, and progress every step of the way.

With this equipment we can know the strength, asymmetries, and how we move down to the 100 grams of force output. During a rehab process like an ACL, we can’t afford to guess on next steps or if you’re ready for a return to sport.
