FAQs

How is MVMNT different from the other physio clinics in Hertfordshire?

At MVMNT Physiotherapy we take a very proactive approach with healthcare, and endeavour to not only treat symptoms, but to create long lasting changes. We aim for our patients to spend more time moving and learning new skills, rather than lying down on the physiotherapy table for twenty minutes. Although “traditional” physiotherapy would have patients come in for weekly sessions of short term treatments such as massage or acupuncture, our goal for all of our patients, is to create a stronger, fitter, and more resilient individual. MVMNT Physiotherapy sessions are much more active than you may be used to in the NHS, or in other physiotherapy clinics in the area. Our aim at MVMNT is to make rehab the highest level of performance you can achieve, and for our physiotherapy sessions and a gym training session to look almost indistinguishable from each other.

How long does a session last?

Both our initial and follow up physiotherapy appointments last for at least 45 minutes. Although many ‘high-volume’ physiotherapy clinics try to squeeze 20+ patients into a day’s diary, we find that this conveyor belt approach of short 20-30 minute appointments doesn’t best serve patients and their recovery. Our longer sessions allow time for any hands on treatment required, the progression of the rehabilitation process in our well equipped gym, and regular discussion around current difficulties and future goals.

All physiotherapy sessions are coupled with a detailed rehab program for you to begin with. This isn’t just a generic sheet of exercises, but an in depth description of movements, sets, and reps, coupled with instructional videos of exercises that are new to you.

How many sessions will I need?

Our aim at MVMNT Physiotherapy is to provide lasting change, and improve the body’s resilience to your occupation, home life, and their sport. Some patients may only need a single session to quickly check a new issue, or receive guidance on something specific to their life without the frustration of waiting for a referral or being on a waiting list. Other patients however, may have more far reaching goals or more severe injuries, that may require a longer period of rehabilitation. It is important to have this discussion at the initial assessment to gain an understanding of the short term and long term rehab options.

What do I need for my session?

It is important to bring gym/comfortable clothing. Comfort and visibility is key. Bring a pair of shorts if it is a lower back, hip, knee, ankle, or foot problem. Bring a vest top/sports bra if it is a neck, upper back, shoulder, elbow, or hand problem. This will ensure we don’t have any barriers to initiating treatment. If you have any recent blood tests or scan results, it would also be useful to bring these along to your appointment.

Do you treat Under 18s?

Yes - We have been lucky enough to be trusted with the rehab of teenagers playing hockey, football, rugby, and athletics from the Hitchin/Letchworth/Stevenage area. We are well accommodated to assess, treat, and rehabilitate active children in our clinic. Luckily, children are very resilient and don’t complain about musculoskeletal issues nearly as much as adults. However, in the case that your child does start to experience pain during a certain activity, it is often a good idea to get them assessed promptly, so that that they can continue to enjoy everything they should be enjoying. Active teenagers are especially at risk of growth related injuries in the ankle, knee, and hip due to their growing bones, muscles, and tendons. Jay has experience working with Fulham FC Academy, so is well placed to assess and treat musculoskeletal and sporting injuries in young children. Active teenagers thrive in a gym-based rehab environment, and not being stuck in a small, stuffy physio room.

It is a necessity that all Under 18s are accompanied by a parent or guardian during the entire physiotherapy session.

What professional training do MVMNT physiotherapists have?

‘'Physiotherapist’ is a protected title, whereby all physiotherapists have completed a degree length qualification, with vigorous training in a wide range of NHS settings. All physiotherapists have completed at least a three year Bachelors Degree, with some completing another two year Masters Degree after this. All MVMNT physiotherapists have thousands of hours of clinical student placement within the NHS, and most will also have several years of extensive experience post-qualification, working within the NHS, private practice, and professional sport.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that sometimes things change at short notice. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so as soon as possible. Cancellations or rescheduling is free of penalty charge as long as it is done at least 24 hours before the appointment time. This is to allow time to try and reschedule a patient into the now vacant slot.

Any cancellations less than 24 hours before booked appointment time, or failure to show up to appointment will result in a penalty charge, equalling the entire appointment fee.

Will my health insurance cover the cost of physiotherapy?

Many insurance providers will reimburse patients for their physiotherapy care, but MVMNT Physiotherapy will only directly bill AXA Health & WPA Insurance. All services must be paid for in full by the patient at the time of appointment, where you will be issued a digital receipt of payment which you can forward to your insurance provider. If your employer covers you under a medical cash back plan then we can provide you with the necessary invoice to claim back some or all of your expenses. It is important that you contact your Insurer/employer and discuss reimbursement and eligibility BEFORE booking an appointment with MVMNT. As the insurance contract is between the patient and the Insurer, MVMNT Physiotherapy does not accept responsibility for reimbursement issues.
